I am in Myanmar (formerly Burma) visiting some missionary friends and also visiting a leprosy hospital and setting up a leprosy database there.

Yes, but that doesn't mean man doesn't have responsibility or choice.

This seems like a contradiction to us but that's because we don't have brains big enough.
From Damo, at 25 Sep 04, 23:12 — view in context:
There are certainly many things that out very small brains cannot understand about an infinite God. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't question or discuss and try to understand more.

I often find it easier to understand if I think about it separately.

If you are not a Christian then you need to know that God will always accept you if you come in faith (and so as Christians we are to proclaim the gospel to all).

Once we are Christians then we thank God that he chose us and realise we have nothing to boast in.

As to the fairness of God choosing some and not others there is a massive element of us not understanding how it work (esp when people are free to choose or reject God - I haven't met anyone yet who wanted to follow God but couldn't). I find it does help me to realise that no-one deserves salvation and so anyone being saved is an amazing act of love and mercy by God.

Ok - any more nominations and then I'll create the poll

Do you want to only vote once or be able to vote once a day until the poll closes? How long do you want it to be open for voting?

Realistically this Monday isn't going to happen as no-one has been in touch about it. If people are interested then perhaps the Monday after but we'll see.

I don't mind which way it goes. This is not meant to be a burden or obligation - Christianity should never be like that.

IS ANYONE INTERESTED IN THIS ANY MORE?

If not we can abandon it. Or if it's just that you're busy then we can change it or postpone it.

If you are interested in it then let me know and try out the chat room with XIRCON and let me know if there are any problems

Ok - New Plan

If people are still interested in having an online bible study then here's what to do

1. Download XIRCON and set it up to go to the CCIW chat room (click here for details)

2. If you can't get on then let one of the moderators know and we'll try to help you.

3. We'll try to have a test session soon (watch this space for details).

4. The new date for the first study is

Monday 20th September at 8pm
From Damo, at 09 Sep 04, 23:21 — view in context:
If everyone interested could get the XIRCON program installed and give it a try out that would be good. Then let us know if you have a problem.

Note that the room is closed at the moment so whilst you can go in you can't chat with anyone. We'll have a test session soon.

Do people want the bible study again next Monday (13th) or leave it to the following week?
From Damo, at 08 Sep 04, 10:57 — view in context:
most people are on it but not everyone. And if someone new came then we might not have them on our contct list.

The other problem is the lack of control on MSN messenger - you can't block people if they are misbehaving. Plus if you are all in the same chat then there's no way of sending private messages.

We are looking at it. May just have to get everyone to download an IRC client. It's not too complicated. And some people did manage to log in using the website.

FAILURE!
Those of you who came will know that it all went pear shaped!! Technical difficulties prevented people from login in.

I'm not giving up though and we are working on a new way of doing things so that it will work next time. Before the next study we will have a test session to make sure there aren't any problems.

Watch this space for more information.

Sorry everyone. I've not been very good at getting things sorted this time. I will be better next time!

Things are still on though. Hope you'll be there.

it's certainly not too late to join. I will get some details up soon (sorry - life is hectic at the moment).

For now I was thinking of doing it every other week. So for example this coming Monday we'll have the first bible study, the next Monday I'll put up the preparation for the following week, and then there's be another study the week after.

The reason for thinking of doing it that way is so that people have time to catch up if they miss a study. Also it means it's not too much of a burden for anyone.

However if you all disagree and want it weekly then I'm happy to reconsider.
From Damo, at 01 Sep 04, 20:40 — view in context:
OK - hope everyone is still ok for next Monday.

Sorry I haven't got the preparation page up yet. Hope to get it up very soon. I'll send you all a message when it's up.

General preparation would be to have a look at the book of Esther. Why not read the whole book? It's not that long and it's a great story.

If as you read it you think of any questions then let write them down and bring them to the studies.

Now there's an interesting question.

The short answer is the bible doesn't tell us so we obviously don't need to know!

For those of you a bit thin on Biology the belly button (umbilicus) is from where the baby is attached to the placenta before it is born. Since Adam wasn't born (but created) then you could say he didn't have one.

Of course God created Adam as a man and so could have made him with a belly button even though he didn't need it.

If you want to know the answer then make sure you are a Christian and then when you die you can ask him!

CHANGE OF PLAN

I hear some people are going to be away so perhaps it's be better to wait until everyone is back in school? Also the next 2 weeks I am working extra in the surgery so won't have time to prepare.

SO - I'll get the preparation page up in the next week or so (I'll post the link here) and we'll have the first Study on

Monday 6th September at 8pm

Let me know if that is ok
