Ok here's a challenge for you all. Let's see who can solve it first. It is not a trick - there is a real answer to this. You can ask me questions if you need to.There is a room with a light in it. There are no windows and the one door is totally sealed to light. From the outside it is impossible to see whether the light is on or off. You are outside and there are 3 light switches (labelled A, B and C). Only one of them turns the light on - the other two do nothing. The door is closed. You can turn the switches on and off as many times as you like whilst the door is closed but once you open the door you can't touch the switches. (You can't close the door again to have another try at the switches.) Your task is to work out which one of the 3 switches operates the light. Don't forget once you open the door to look your go is over. |

If one of your friends stands inside the room with a mobile phone ready, you can switch off the lights one by one & ask him which one switches the light off. |

Very good - but I'm afraid not. You're on your own for this one.

Can't you just turn all of the switches on and that guarentees that you turn the light on which is the whole point of a light switch?!?!?! |

Puzzle
Yes but the idea is to find out which light switch turns the light on

OK:Assuming all the switches are off initially: you turn switch A on, and leave it on for 1 minute. Then turn it off, and turn switch B on. Open the door straight away. If the light it on, it is switch B (obviously) If the light is off, but you touch the bulb and it is warm, it is switch A. If the light is off and the bulb is cold, then it is switch C. Is that allowed? |

I worked it out. The thing you said about turning lights on and off gave me the clue - what are the side effects of turning a light on and then off again.
